  • "A beautiful and well-appointed country cottage in the gorgeous village of Tideswell."

We absolutely loved our stay at Rebethnal cottage. Clean and delightfully-furnished, with a full range of kitchen utensils including a hand blender, perfect for setting up home away from home for the Easter bank holiday weekend. The separate annexe worked really well for my husband and I, as it gave us a bit of privacy from my parents when needed. The location was fantastic for accessing the Monsal trail and getting around the Peaks (Bakewell, Buxton) and even Sheffield. 10/10 recommend.

We're really please you enjoyed your stay Danielle. When we renovated the annex, your situation was exactly what we had in mind so we are delighted it worked so well for you and your parents. We'd love to welcome you back sometime Property Owner

  • "Water streaming down wall above ‘annex’ bed was not a good start (bad weather) but the main issue is the annex bathroom plumbing."

Shower tray does not drain & when the toilet is flushed, gasses spray out of the tray drain & splash water (or whatever!) into the shower tray. Extremely unhygenic. General facilities in the annex are inadequate & layout is poor. Property description does not adequately explain the layout of the whole property (ie need to cross a very slippery yard in the rain… stairs into the main property are steep & unlit). The annex lets this property down considerably. Just staying in the main house would be great - but the annex detracts significantly. Cleanliness & quality of fixtures / fittings is good but overall as a holiday cottage with 2 bedrooms it just doesn’t work.

Thanks very much for your feedback. It is great you liked the cottage so much, but we were very sorry to hear the layout of the property didn’t work for you and your stay was affected by the issues in the annex. This is the first time we have had any drainage issues in the annex, which turned out to be the result of a blocked drain that has now been cleared. We will add some signage encouraging our guests not to flush wet wipes down the toilet which turned out to be the cause. We have also never experienced any water ingress in the annex. Unfortunately, there was no evidence of this after your stay, but we will clearly have this investigated. With regard to your concerns on layout, our listing does describe the property as being split across two buildings and that it is not suitable for children or those with limited mobility. But the fact this wasn’t clear to you suggests we should revisit this description, and I have spoken to Sykes who are in the process of doing this. We will also bring forward the photo of the courtyard showing the stone steps linking the cottage and annex so future guests are clear this is how the annex is accessed. We will also add some lighting on the steps leading to the courtyard to compliment the light by the annex door. We have had many positive comments about the property providing a great shared space while also having two private ensuite sleeping areas, but I appreciate this doesn’t work for everyone. Thanks again for you feedback Property Owner

The cottage is very well presented and has all the required amenities. We felt at home straight away. It's clear the owners have put a lot of time and effort into the property. Looking forward to returning next year!
