  • "This is a beautiful place to stay, comfy beds and great hot showers."

The welcome pack and wood for the fire were welcome touches. The kitchen was well supplied with cleaning products, tea, coffee, oil, salt and pepper. Any questions I had during my stay were answered promptly. The WiFi was great and allowed me to work. I used Treveddoe Farm instead of the postcode which took my straight there.

  • "Absolutely perfect!"

We booked Barley Crush for a quiet getaway with our 2 dogs. We were not disappointed. The barn conversion was beautiful both inside and out, renovated to a high standard but kept beautifully traditional. The furnishings are good quality, tasteful and above all else very comfortable. The accommodation was surprisingly spacious, the pictures do not do it justice. It was warm and toasty on arrival, plentiful hot water and free logs for the woodburner. The kitchen is well eauipped. There is everything you could possibly want or need for a home from home stay. Many properties ‘allow’ dogs but few offer the welcome that this one does, towels, bowls, and even a lovely comfy dog bed provided!! The girls were delighted. The outside space is secure for all but the most determined escapees, pretty but natural and a wonderful place to sit with a morning coffee whilst listening to the birdsong, or with an evening glass of wine watching the sunset, and if you are lucky enough to have clear skies the stars are abundant and bright. Claudia was lovely to chat to, not at all intrusive, and lives nearby should you need anything. We and our dogs enjoyed walks directly from the door though fields and ancient woodland, along the river and up over the beautiful rugged Bodmin moor. If you are looking for a peaceful tranquil haven that is right off the beaten track but within easy driving distance of the beaches and busier attractions that this amazing county has to offer, you will love Barley Crush. We have stayed in many locations on and around Bodmin moor, and this is one of our favourites. We will definitely be back.

  • "If you want to take a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of life, then you could do a lot worse than pick Barley Crush Cottage."

It's a lovely place in a beautiful quiet location on Bodmin Moor. Do take note of the hosts comments about the track up to the property, you do need to take it very steady, but it's well worth it. The directions given to find Barley Crush are good, but a bit of advice if you're primarily using satnav. It's best to put in the name of the farm the cottage is on instead of its postcode. This is because the postcode directs you to another farm nearby. If you're able drag yourself out of the cosy environment you can create, do take a look outside if a clear evening, because with the lack of light pollution the night sky is so beautiful. The hosts Claudia and Ben make a great effort to ensure your stay is a great experience as the cottage is extremely well equipped and comfortable. There's also some nice goodies provided for you to enjoy on arrival. It was a really enjoyable stay and highly recommended.

About the location

BODMIN MOOR

Bodmin 7 miles; Launceston 14 miles

The vast and rugged Bodmin Moor, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forms over 150 square miles of striking, rocky landscape, with much of it declared a Site of Specific Scientific Importance. This ancient location is home to mystical standing stones, old buildings dating from medieval times and thousands of years’ worth of tin mining heritage. There are plenty of beautiful walks to discover, with challenging climbs up some of the tallest spots in Cornwall, offering fantastic far-reaching views towards both the north and south coast on fine days. The nearby town of Launceston, fondly thought of as the Gateway to Cornwall, can be found to the north east, with beautiful Georgian buildings set around its central square, and romantic ruins of a Norman castle at the outskirts. In the other direction, the historic town of Bodmin lies to the south west, with a host of exciting attractions including its Courtroom Experience, the Bodmin Jail, the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, or a trip to see each of the seven holy wells, which lie dotted around the town. Ancient Jamaica Inn, which lies in the heart of the moor, brims with smuggling and pirate history; almost 300 years old, it's celebrated in Daphne du Maurier’s popular novel and is well worth a visit. With much to see and do, and stunning scenery all around, Bodmin Moor is a delightful destination for your holiday.
