It s nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed a medieval town with plenty of things to do and it s also close to the seaside village of Bamburgh. History lovers will enjoy visiting the castle there which can be seen from the window as well as Alnwick Castle used in the Harry Potter film series. For those who love the outdoors there s the Northumberland National Park Glendale and the Cheviot hills which provide excellent walking hiking and biking. If the view from the cottage isn t enough you can take a trip to Lindisfarne across the tidal causeway or take a boat trip and try sea fishing or bird watching. On the ground floor there is a gorgeous open plan living area with a dining table next to patio doors overlooking the countryside and a cosy sitting room area with a wood burner. Out to sea there are plenty of manmade and natural wonders to explore: Lindisfarne is the main settlement on Holy Island accessible by causeway at low tide which is home to a famous abbey that s one of the earliest Christian sites in England. The island itself is a walker s paradise with excellent bird watching to be had with its resident wading and sea birds as well as migratory visitors making themselves known at various times of year. A visit to Holy Island is a wonderful experience as it is accessible only by tidal causeway and being home to just 160 residents is an unspoilt natural habitat for an abundance of wildlife as well as being a site of religious pilgrimage and historic interest. Beautiful St Abbs is a short drive away and offers some fantastic walks a nature reserve and excellent diving. The Berwickshire coast is renowned for its abundance and diversity of marine wildlife. If you enjoy an adrenalin rush highly recommended is the Eyemouth Rib boat trip. Within an hour s train journey are the cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle with their excellent shopping and leisure facilities. Mountain bikers and walkers are spoilt for choice with numerous country and coastal tracks to explore. This area is a golfers paradise and boasts numerous golf courses all within a short drive The Roxburgh course is a real champion test and has hosted several top events.
